French model Sabelle Caro, who rocked the world after posing nude in a controversial anti-aneroxia billboard ad in 2007, has died.
Her boyfriend, Swiss singer Vincent Bigler, confirmed her death, saying she passed away on November 17 after spending about two weeks in the hospital with acute respiratory disease, although he did not know the cause of death.
Apparently, her family wanted to keep her death news under wraps.
She had suffered from the disease since she was 13 and her acting coach Daniele Dubreuil-Prevot said she "had been sick for a long time" reports AFP.
The scarily thin model fell into a coma in 2006 when her weight dropped to 25kg. She fought the eating disorder and announced to website 20 Minutes.ch in early 2010 that her weight had risen to 42kg.
Sabelle hit the spotlight after she was photoraphed nude with anorexia by Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani. At the time the 1.65m model weighed just 32kg.
The anti-anorexia campaign was released in Milan fashion week.
Italy's advertising watchdog later went on to ban the contentious advertisement while French companies were instructed not to carry it.
